Arlington Elementary believes school should be more than just academics. It should also foster relationship building, connect students to other ideas and cultures, and most importantly, it should be fun. That's why we ensure our students have clubs to join - clubs to stimulate the brain and help connect students with similar interests. 

We encourage all of our students to join a club that peaks their interest. From academic and student leadership clubs to extracurricular, we believe AES offers every student a path.

Chorus

In the Arlington Elementary School Chorus, 4^th and 5^th grade students receive a variety of performance opportunities enriched with singing technique and harmony singing beyond the conventional classroom setting. Students enjoy a consistent exposure to fun and challenging choral music presented to the school and wider community.

Engineering Club

The purpose of this club is to allow students to practice their engineering skills through challenges based on the University of Memphis' Engineering Day.

Perennial Math 
(Tomlinson and Brigance)

Arlington Elementary School has been participating in Perennial Math for the past seven years. Perennial Math was created by Dr. Sylvia Dean as a way for students to showcase their math skills and help teachers develop math skills in their classrooms. 

Perennial Math has three types of competition for students in grades 3-12:

1. An Online competition (grades 3-8) with two separate seasons to choose from;
2. Live On-Site tournaments hosted at colleges or schools (grades 3-8);
3. WebEx Virtual tournaments for districts and classrooms (grades 3-12). These are also used for our National Championships.

Over the past several years, Arlington Community Schools has hosted several on-site competitions where students from all over the region come to participate. 

The goals of the program are to develop: 

• Excitement for problem solving
• Persistence and hard work
• Teamwork and collaboration
• Communication skills to demonstrate thinking
• Recognition of different approaches to problem solving
• Encouragement by learning from mistakes

Cost: $25 (includes both online tests, materials, and tournament)

Jr. Beta Club

National Beta Club is the largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization in America. And for more than 80 years, it has prepared today's students to be tomorrow's leaders. The mission of the National Beta Club is to promote the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership among elementary and secondary school students. At AES, 5^th grade students are selected for induction based on high academic achievement and excellent conduct. Each year, Junior Beta Club members participate in a community service project designed to benefit the school and community.

Best Buddies

The AES Best Buddies Chapter is heading into its second year after a very successful first year. Best Buddies is a nonprofit organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, leadership development, empowers the special abilities of people with Intellectual Developmental Delay by helping them form friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, improve public speaking, self-advocacy and communication skills, and feel valued by society. 

Last year, AES began the Best Buddies journey by creating its own chapter at the school level. The students participated in activities, such as holiday parties, the Friendship Walk, one-on-one/small group quality time throughout the school day, and an end of year celebration. Arlington Elementary School won Best Buddies Chapter of the Year in both the region and at the state level. We are so excited to get this club up and running again and look forward to seeing all the wonderful ways it will impact and continue to develop our students this year.

Juggling Team

The Juggling Team is making a comeback after a 6-year hiatus. There was a juggling team for 12 years previously that performed for all the news channels, the Grizzlies halftime shows, the men’s and women’s University of Memphis halftime shows. There were a total of 6 performances at FedX Forum. The team has performed all over the Mid-South area. This year we are starting from scratch with no former jugglers. Coach Halford plans on performing at as many places as possible in the 23-24 year. The Juggling Team will be offered for students in grades 2-5, and tryouts will start in October. Kindness Club

The purpose of this club is to promote awareness of, and highlight opportunities for, kindness towards: self, family, peers, community, school, animals, and the environment.

Student Council
(Campbell and Smith)

Student Council is an organization conducted by students and supervised by two of our teachers here at AES. The purpose of the student council is to give students an opportunity to develop and sharpen their leadership skills by organizing and carrying out school activities and service projects. Students share ideas, interests, and concerns with the adult sponsors and sometimes help raise funds for school-wide activities and lead and participate in school and community projects.
